如果史前人類全都安安穩穩地躲在山洞裏，我們現代人會不會還是現在這副模樣呢？且看咕嚕一家在山洞被毀前的原生態，你或許會得到些許啟發。瓜哥（Grug）是一家之主，主張一切新事物都是魔鬼，嚴厲督促妻子烏嘎（Ugga）、外婆（Gran）、二兒子坦克（Thunk）和小女兒（Sandy）留守山洞。偏偏大女兒小伊（Eep）最愛新鮮事，常常跟他鬧矛盾。可是這時地球的地殼變動，大陸分離，他們的山洞沒了。他們不得不麵對外界的一切新事物，途中還遇上已經發育出智慧的遊牧人蓋（Guy）。他們到底該如何接受改變，追逐更美好的明天呢？
咕嚕一家長期躲於山洞，在嚴酷的環境下生活……
Eep： With every sun comes a new day. A new beginning. A hope that things will be better today than they were yesterday. But _disibledevent=“clue sb. up”，表示為某人提供某些信息，後麵通常跟“on”或者“about”，再加信息，例如：
Somebody must have clued him in on our sales strategy.（一定是有人把我們的營銷策略告訴了他。）
She is really clued up on politics.（她對政治非常博學多聞。）
為了告誡小伊不要再出門探險，瓜哥以她為原型編了個故事……
Grug： Tonight we’ll hear the story of Krispy Bear. A long time ago， this little bear was alive. She was alive because she listened to her father and lived her life in routine and darkness and terror. So she was happy. （Eep sighs） But Krispy had one terrible problem. She was filled with...curiosity.
（everyone feels astonished[驚訝]）
Ugga： Grug！
Grug： Yes， yes. And one day， while she was in a tree， the curious little bear wanted to climb to the top.
Thunk： What？
Grug： And no sooner than she climbed to the top she saw something new and died.
Ugga： Just like that？
Grug： Yes！ Her last moments of terror still frozen on her face.
Gran： Same ending as every day. （laughs）
Thunk： I get it， Dad. I get it. I will never do anything new or different.
Grug： Good man， Thunk.
瓜哥：今天晚上我要講個關於克裏斯皮熊的故事。很久很久以前，這隻小熊還活著。她之所以活著是因為她聽爸爸的話，在黑暗和恐懼裏規規矩矩地過日子，所以她過得很開心。（小伊歎氣）但是克裏斯皮有個很糟糕的毛病，那就是……她有很強的好奇心。
（大家都很吃驚）
烏嘎：瓜哥！
瓜哥：是的，沒錯。有一天，她待在一個樹洞裏。這隻充滿好奇心的小熊想要爬到樹頂上去。
坦克：什麼？
瓜哥：就在她剛剛爬到樹頂上的時候，看到一些新事物，然後就死了。
烏嘎：就這樣死了？
瓜哥：是的！最後一刻的驚恐表情永遠凝固在她的臉上。
外婆：每天的結局都一樣。（笑）
坦克：我懂了，爸爸！我絕對不會去嚐試新奇和異樣的東西。
瓜哥：好小子，坦克。
口語錦囊
“no sooner…than”引導時間狀語從句，表示一……就……，“no sooner”後用過去完成時，“than”後用一般過去時。當“no sooner”放於句首時，主句還要倒裝，例如：
He had no sooner arrived than he was asked to leave again.
No sooner had he arrived than he was asked to leave again.
（他剛到就被支走了。）
選段中是非正式的用法，所以“no sooner”後麵出現一般過去時。在平時的考試中，各位蜂蜜切勿模仿這種用法哦。
遊牧部落的蓋出手相助，將咕嚕家族從怪鳥手上拯救出來。而且，他還會使用火，小伊對他很感興趣，瓜哥則對他很反感……
Eep： Going somewhere？
Guy： The Mountain. High ground. End of the world， remember？
Eep： That already happened. It destroyed our cave.
Guy： No. That was just the beginning of the end. The end of the end is still coming.
Grug： Eep. Drop it.
Eep：（Guy is struggling） We can’t let him go！ What if we don’t find a cave before sunset？ What if it takes a few days？ Oh， what if the birds come back？
Gran： We need his fire， dummy[傻瓜]！
Grug： Fine. You’re staying with us until we find a cave. Guy：（trapped in a handy[方便攜帶的] trunk by Grug） What？ No， I’m not！ Don’t make me part of this. Stay here if you want， but let me go. I’ve got a dream， a mission， a reason to live！
Eep： Not anymore！
Guy： Ummm， I’ve got an idea. Let’s go to that mountain.
Grug： It’s too far.
Eep： Dad really has his heart set on a cave.
Guy： There are caves on that mountain.
Eep： Have you been there？
小伊：打算去哪兒？
蓋：到山上的高地去。世界末日，還記得嗎？
小伊：這一切早就發生了，我們家的洞穴被毀了。
蓋：不，那隻是末日的開始，最後的末日還在後頭呢。
瓜哥：小伊，把他放下。
小伊：（蓋正掙紮著逃走）我們不能就這樣放他走！萬一我們在日落之前還沒找到山洞呢？萬一要找上好幾天呢？萬一那些怪鳥又飛回來呢？
外婆：我們需要這家“火”，呆瓜！
瓜哥：好吧，你得跟我們待在一塊，直到我們找到山洞。
蓋：（瓜哥把他套在一條小木樁裏）什麼？不，我才不要！這跟我有什麼關係！你們想留就留下來，讓我走。我有夢想，我有使命，我有活下去的理由！
小伊：現在都沒了。
蓋：我有個主意。大夥到那座山去吧。
瓜哥：太遠了。
