He moves right in the centre, and yet returns alone to his proper path.——- from The Fourth Line, Divided, Fu

Modern interpretation: The superior man is not supposed to associate with evil persons even in an unhealthy context. He should conduct himself according to the golden mean and seek truth consistently in spite of loneliness.

Moral: Golden mean is an ancient moral principle, which advocates impartiality, reconciliation and compromise in one’s approach to people or matters.

Glossary: Fu is a hexagram taking the trigram Zhen below and that of Kun above, where the fourth line is a divided weak line right in the center. Among those represented by the other divided and weak lines, this line, however, responds to the first line, undivided. This position signifies that a man will return alone and repeat his proper course if he moves in a correct direction.
