老鷹和狐狸是非常親密的夥伴，他們決定比鄰而居，以為這樣友情就會更加牢固。於是，老鷹帶著他的孩子們飛到一棵高高的大樹上築了巢，狐狸領著她的孩子們在樹下的灌木叢中安了家。誰知一天，老鷹沒有食物喂養孩子，又恰逢狐狸外出覓食，於是就飛到樹下把小狐狸抓到了樹上美美地飽餐了一頓。狐狸返回家，看到發生的一切，悲痛欲絕。更讓他難過的是，他無法抓住能在天上飛行的老鷹，為孩子們報仇雪恨。
不久之後，報應就降臨到老鷹身上了。原來有一天，人們在郊外宰羊獻祭，老鷹覬覦鮮美的羊肉，抓住了幾根燃燒著的羊腸就往回飛。不料，一陣狂風吹來，羊腸上的火星點燃了鳥窩裏的幹草。還沒學會飛翔的小鷹驚慌逃走，結果全部摔死在地上。在樹下守候的狐狸抓住時機，一個箭步躥上來在老鷹的麵前把小鷹全部吃掉了。
