聽了獅子的話，公牛一時忍不住美食的誘惑，就答應了獅子的邀請。走近獅子的住處，公牛看到很多烤肉的工具，唯獨沒有綿羊的影子。公牛立即明白了獅子的用意，沒有搭理獅子，掉頭就走。獅子責備公牛不講信用，問他，為什麼對主人不打招呼就走，並沒有誰唐突你啊。公牛回答說： “我有充足的理由這麼做，因為我發現你打算當做祭品上供的不是綿羊而是公牛。 ”
