年老體衰的獅子躺在山洞裏一病不起。除了狐狸，所有的動物們都紛紛前來探望這位德高望重的國王。狼馬上想到這是一個陷害狐狸的千載難逢的好機會，於是就在獅子麵前搬弄是非，誹謗狐狸： “大王啊，狐狸這麼長時間都不來看望您，他是根本沒有把您放在眼裏啊！ ”正好狐狸這時候趕到，聽到了狼的話。憤怒的獅子對著狐狸大吼，機靈的狐狸急忙懇求解釋的機會。他為自己辯解道： “我對陛下是忠心耿耿啊！來探望您的動物們有哪一個能像我這樣呢？這些天來我風餐露宿，遍訪名醫，為您尋求治病的良方。總算是善有善報吧，我終於找到了一個。 ”獅子聽了之後大喜，連忙向狐狸詢問治病的方法。狐狸回答說： “這個方法很簡單，而且要用的藥就在眼前。你把狼的皮剝下來，然後裹在身上，假以時日您的病就會好了！ ”獅子馬上下令把狼拖出去剝掉他的皮。狐狸對氣急敗壞的狼說： “你應該鼓勵你的大王去行善，而不是慫恿他去作惡。 ”
第一個說謊的人不會得到大家的信任。
