獅子看到一隻熟睡的兔子，正想把她吃掉時，忽然瞥見有一頭雄鹿匆匆經過。於是，獅子就丟下兔子去追雄鹿。兔子被響聲驚醒，急忙逃走了。過了好長時間，獅子仍然無法順利追趕到雄鹿，隻好返回來尋找在睡夢中的兔子。當他跑回原來的地方時，發現兔子已經逃走了。兩手空空的獅子失望地說： “我真是自作自受啊 !竟然放棄可以輕易到手的獵物，而去追求希望渺茫的東西。 ”
