有一位老婦人患了眼疾，雙目失明了。她找到一位醫生，並與其達成協議：如果醫生可以使她的眼睛痊愈就付給他報酬；如果醫生做不到就隻能一無所獲。這個醫生每次來給老婦人治病都會用藥膏封住她的眼睛，趁她看不見的時候，順手牽羊把她家裏的東西偷走。當醫生把老婦人家裏的東西全都偷走以後，治療就完成了。於是，他向老夫人索要之前協定好的報酬。可是，老婦人拒絕支付。意見相左的兩人找來了執政官評理。老婦人理直氣壯地說： “我隻答應醫生治好我的眼疾才付給報酬，但是經過治療，我的視力反而比以前更差了，而不是更好。因為從前我可以看見自己家裏的東西，可是現在我什麼也看不到。 ”
邪惡的人無意中就會原形畢露。

I orary af.rm that I am still blind； for when I lost the use of my eyes，I saw in my house various chattels and valuable goods : but now，though he swears I am y blindness，I am o see a sihing in it.”
