3．more than表示強調的意義
more than如果後麵接名詞，意義為“不僅僅是……”，如果後麵接形容詞或副詞，意義為“很”、“非常”、“十分”等。如：A lifetime is more than suffitly long for people to get what there is of it wrong.（Piet Hein）如果人們對生命所有的一切都領會得不對，那麼一生就太長了。
弱化比較nothing more than，little more than，not more than等結構表示“隻不過是”的含義。如：Happiness is nothing more than good health and a bad memory.（Albert Schweitzer）幸福隻不過是身體健康，比較健忘。
Indeed，history is nothing more than a tableau of crimes and misfortunes.（Voltaire）事實上，曆史不過是犯罪和不幸的展示。
Ma is nothing more than motivating other people.（Lee Iacocca）管理不過就是激勵其他人。
Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired.（Jules Renard）懶惰不過就是還沒有疲憊就休息。

否定比較
1.no more...than...no
more...than...含有消極否定的意思，表示“兩者都不……”，“既不……也不”。如：It may be that when his life at last es to an end he will leave no more trabsp;of his sojourn on earth than a stone thrown into a river leaves on the water.一個人生命走到盡頭，可能不會留下任何痕跡，正如一塊石頭投入水中，也會了無痕跡一樣。
2.less...than...
less...than...在英語中也往往表達消極否定的含義。如：Ameris have a warmth and friendliness less superficial than many fners think.美國人熱情友好，這並不像外國人認為的那樣僅僅是表麵現象。
3.more than...
more than連接兩個對等的短語也常常表示否定的意義。如：It is our choibsp;that show what we truly are，far more than our abilities.（Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets）我們的決定，而不是我們的能力說明了我們真正的為人。
