in the distance
這三個短語的含義並不相同。
在用以指位置、場所時，at表示“空間的某一點”；from在用以指位置、場所時，表示“距離或遠隔”，著重強調“從……起點”；in在用以指位置、場所時，表示“地方範圍內的空間的廣度”。
因此，at a distance的意思是“在遠處”、“在一定的距離”；from a distance的意思是“從一定的距離”、“由遠處”；in the distance的意思是“在遠方”，但它指的是看得到、聽得見的距離。
另一點需要注意的是，at a distance的a不能改作the；in the distahe不能改作a；from a distance的a可以改為the，但不常見。
