這三個詞的含義並不相同。
young man雖然能和youth一樣譯作“青年”，但它特指二十一歲至三十歲左右的男子。如果統指“青年男女”，應該用youth; young men and women; young people或youths and maidens。young man的反義詞是old man。例：
Everybody says he is a motivated young man.
大家都說，他是一個求上進的青年。
e here，young man！
小夥子，到這兒來！
Two young men, snatched the top prizes in a manufacturing and industrial engineering petition．
兩名青年奪得了製造工程和工業工程競賽的最高獎項。
youngster是“兒童”、“少年”，尤指天真活潑的男孩，它的反義詞是oldster。有時它也可用以指幼小的動物。例：
He is only a youngster of ten！
他隻是個10歲的孩子！
Tom，you should not be rude to the youngsters in the zoo！
湯姆，你在動物園裏不可以對那些小動物那麼粗暴！
youth是age的反義詞，它統指“青年男女”，既能作集合名詞，又能作普通名詞用。因此，我們可以說：a youth; the youth和two youths。值得注意的是, the youth of the try之後的動詞既可以用is，也可以用are，需視具體情況而定。有時候，youth還可以用作抽象名詞，表示“青春”、“青春時代”之意。例：
All of you are promising youths.
你們都是很有前途的青年。
They are the typical youth of the prent day.
他們是今日典型的青年（男女）。
The youth of that school is (or are)preparing for its（or their)grand parade.
那所學校的青年正在做大遊行的準備工作。
Youth is a stuff that will not endure.
青春稍縱即逝。
