在第二次世界大戰結束後拒絕丘吉爾的英國人對這位孤僻的天才仍然在他死後給了最大的榮譽：
“英國政府為丘吉爾舉行了國葬。他的靈柩在西敏寺停放，供民眾吊唁，議會也休會3天；靈柩由議會議長和3名政黨領袖，以及國防和海陸空參謀長守護，大約有32萬民眾前來向丘吉爾致敬，包括幾十位各國的國家元首和領導人。根據丘吉爾的遺願，儀式結束後靈柩用遊艇運到滑鐵盧火車站，在那裏鳴禮炮19響，然後用火車把靈柩運到他的出生地布倫海姆宮附近的一個教堂中，與他的父母親葬在一起。
