Diet
Tongan food is very rich， such as cassava， taro， banana， breadfruit， bananas， coconut， sweet potatoes， a variety of tropical vegetables and pork， chicken and so on. The tables for guests are full of local characteristics of the spectrum of dishes， such as roast pork， fried chicken， shrimp stew， a variety of seasonal vegetables and coconut milk mixed with raw fish， grilled bananas， betel steamed， baked taro， tropical fruits and so on.
The most striking is the roasted whole pig， and all pigs feast is the most solemn and welcome feast. After the firewood， host and guest sat on the floor. First， the elder nobility prayed in Tonga， then the hostess cut down the first piece for the owner to taste， finally every one started to enjoy it.
醫療
湯加實行全國免費醫療製度。例如，2001年，全國共有4家醫院，34家衛生所，302張病床，醫生52名，護士303名。人類發展指數位列聯合國開發計劃署第54位，在南太島國中居首位。全國男性人均壽命69歲，女性人均壽命74歲。
教育
湯加的公辦學校對5～14歲兒童實行免費教育。初、中級義務教育普及，幾乎沒有文盲。沒有大學，但設有南太平洋大學分校。湯加法律規定教會可參與教育，獨立辦學。政府和一些英聯邦國家提供部分獎學金送學生出國深造。
飲食
湯加的食物十分豐富，有木薯、芋頭、芭蕉、麵包果、香蕉、椰子、地瓜，各種熱帶蔬菜以及豬肉、雞肉等。招待客人的餐桌上擺著各種富有當地特色的菜肴，有烤豬、炸雞、燜大蝦，各種應時蔬菜以及椰汁拌生魚、烤香蕉、蒸檳榔、烤芋頭、熱帶水果等。
最引人注目的是烤全豬，全豬宴是湯加最隆重的迎賓宴。小豬烤製後，賓主席地而坐，首先由貴族長者用湯加語作祈禱，然後由女主人切下第一片獻給主人，接著眾人一起開始享用。

Etiquette
When the Tonga people meet with the guests in social situations ，they usually shake hands and greet each other. When the low levels meet the ones of high rank， they must salute a kiss-foot ceremony.
When the locals treat the guests， they are used to hand-holding even they have prepared knives for themselves. When visiting their home， if you sit on the straw， the guests will be so happy. The gift is appropriate， but it only suits between close friends. However， flowers are not considered as a gift.
