I thought to myself， If this is my last day on earth， would I rather spend it at a business meeting or with this woman？

最為重要的是，2005年喬布斯在斯坦福大學畢業典禮上做了一次堪稱偉大的演講，這也是我無數次想象斯坦福大學的源泉。坦率地講，我並不是蘋果產品狂熱的粉絲，雖然我幾乎每天都在用蘋果的台式機來工作。“蘋果教主”喬布斯的智慧給了我至深的影響，而幾乎全部的影響都來自他這次演講。所以，此次從遠方而來，與其說是參觀斯坦福大學，不如說是緬懷智者。
不到半小時的演講究竟有多大的力量，實在無法估量。我至今猶記當初在新東方英語的一篇材料上讀到這一演講片段，被瞬間擊中的情景。當時讀到的是這一段：
Again， you can't connect the dots looking for ward； you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.You have to trust in something—your gut， destiny， life， karma， whatever—because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart， even when it leads you off the well-worn path， and that will make all the difference.

忘了那是怎樣的一種激動，於是迫不及待找來英文全文，用心研讀。確切地說，即便是並不出色的翻譯文字，也具有直指人心的力量。換句話說，喬布斯說了什麼是最重要的，而不在於怎麼表達。但實際上，他的英文表達簡直太出色了，通過視頻你可以感覺到他在很平和地敘述，中間似乎隻喝了一次水，這恰恰表明：思想的質量不需要通過身體語言、美妙的詞彙以及表述策略來造勢，你隻需要讀下來，其驚世駭俗的效果就會得以呈現。這不是誇張，是一個強大的事實。
