第十九章
THE EPIC AND THE MAN
I feel as if mountains are hidden in the distance
I feel as if an ocean rests beside me
I feel that the land extends without end
I feel love like a shower at twilight
I feel that along the route of a people’s migration
All the hoofprints of oxen
The hoofprints of sheep
The footprints of men and women
Have been immortalized
I seem to see the ancestors’ sky god lit in starlight
I seem to see ancestors’ muscles in curves of yonder mountains
I seem to see buckwheat growing from ancestors’ bodies
I seem to see the golden sun turned into a lamp
I seem to see an ancient diary on the land
I seem to see a group of deep thinkers, standing in the highlands
I seem to see a door bearing the words Book of Origins [1]
Whereupon I push that heavy door open
On the horizon of antiquity I see an eagle flying toward me
And then under the golden tree of a future civilization
I see a human being standing
[1]
SHALO RIVER [1]
Lying on this land
I drift off to asleep
(O, folk song from the heart
Filled with the tenderness
of my people
I am sleeping in your dream now)
Lying on this land
I am waking sweetly
(O, free and
noble blood
of my people
I am waking to your gentle call)
[1]
我也要哭喊著回到她的懷中
DEJYSHALO, MY NATIVE PLACE
I admit that all pain comes from there
I admit that all sorrow comes from there
I admit its tales of trouble have an air of mystery
I admit all the nights are filled with melancholy
I admit that bloody feuds happened there
I admit my twelve-year-old uncle was given in forfeit for a life
