有個銅匠養了一隻小狗，非常寵愛他，把他看作自己始終如一的伴侶。每次他忙著準備食物的時候，小狗在睡大覺。當他開飯的時候，小狗正好醒來，搖晃著尾巴向主人索要食物。一天，主人假裝生氣地對索要食物的小狗說： “你這個討厭的懶家夥！我在忙裏忙外準備做飯的時候，你就舒服地呼呼大睡。當我準備用餐了，你就開始搖著尾巴要吃的了。難道你不明白 ‘勞動是幸福的源泉 ’的道理嗎？不勞而獲是不可能的！ ”

A Brazier had a little Dog，which was a great favorite with his master，and his t panion. While he hammered away at his metals the Dog slept；but wheher haahe Dog woke up aail，as if he would ask for a share of his meal. His master to be angry and shaking his stick at him，said， “You wretched little sluggard! what shall I do to you? While I am hammering on the anvil，you sleep o；and wheo eat after my toil，you and wag your tail for food. Do you not know that labor is the source of every blessing，and that hose who work are e?”
