指示代詞的用法

1.指示代詞

指示代詞this和the指時間與空間上較近的事物,that和tho指時間與空間上較遠的事物;that和tho指代前麵提到過的事物,this和the指代隨後要講的事物。如:That view point is proved to be wrong,and this is what people are thinking correbsp;now.(that指前,this指後)Tho are the problems we should solve.(tho指前)Written on the placard are the words: we want peace.(the指後)

2.tho作定語從句的先行詞

tho作定語從句先行詞,一般用who作關係代詞,定語從句的謂語動詞用複數形式。To fear love is to fear life,and tho who fear life are already three parts dead.(Bertrand Rusll)I am not blaming tho who are resolved to rule,only tho who show an even greater readiness to submit.(Thucydides)

3.指示代詞such

Subsp;is life.(主語)Just before Christmas they wanted help with trees and such.(賓語)The waves were subsp;as I never saw before.(表語)

不定代詞的用法

another指同類中多個東西中的“另一個”。如:Success is the ability to go from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm.(Winston Churchill)others是other的複數形式,指其他的人或物。如:Better be wi by the misfortunes of others than by your o)Five many things in others; nothing in yourlf.(Ausonius)The man who has fidenbsp;in himlf gains the fidenbsp;of others.(Hasidibsp;Saying)the other指同類中餘下的另一個。如:There are two tragedies in life.One is not to get your heart’s desire.The other is to get it.(Gee Bernard Shaw)the others表示同類中餘下的全部。如:It has been said that democrabsp;is the worst form of gover except all the others that have been tried.(Winston Churchill)
