例: you do it?=Are you able to do it?

you e tomorrow?=Will you be able to e tomorrow?

I''m afraid I ''t.=I won''t be able to e.

He could speak three fn languages when he was still in his teens.(這裏的could可以改作was able to。)

(二)在表達“不能”的否定意義時,could和be able to也能換用。例如:

Although he worked very hard,he couldn''t (or was not able to)pass the uy entrance examination.

(三)指過去完成某一具體的行為時,隻能用was(were)able to,不能用could。例如:

Finally he was able to pass the examination.

請注意,用was(were)able to有“努力完成”之意,如果不強調此意,一般說:He pasd the examination.

在下列句子裏,也是隻能用be able to,不能用could:

We had a holiday last week and so were able to go to the Bride''s Pool.
