deep可以作形容詞，也可以作副詞，因此，它容易和另一副詞deeply混淆不清。deep作副詞時，與deeply一樣，也表示“深深地”的意思，但使用場合有所不同。
（一)deep多用在具體的或有形的場合；deeply多用作抽象的或比喻的意思。例如：
Still waters run deep.
靜水流深。
That bad egg stood there with his hands stuck deep in his pockets.
那個壞蛋站在那兒，兩手深深地插在口袋裏。
We all love deeply the life of today.
我們都熱愛今天的生活。
The victim sighed deeply at the devastation caud by the flood.
災民為大水帶來的災害深深地歎了一口氣。
（二)在修飾形容詞時，隻能用deeply，不能用deep。例：
I''m deeply grateful for you advice.
我非常感激你的勸告。
He is deeply verd in French history.
他精通法國史。
（三)表示“深入某一部位”（to a deep position）的含義時，用deep，不用deeply。例如：
Hamlet drove the sword deep into his body.
哈姆雷特把劍深深地紮進他的身體。
The right back of our team kicked the ball deep into our oppos'' half.
我隊的右後衛將球踢入對方的後半場靠端線處。

常與deep搭配使用的詞有：go,study,talk,e,force,dig,drive,sink,run,work,tinue,drink,live,stand …
在英語裏，類似deep這種用法的詞很多。常見的有clear,clo,direct,easy,firm,high,loud,quick,right,sharp,slow,sure,wide,wrong等。
