這兩個短語也是一字之差，其意相同，但使用場合不同。
in an hour是從現在看將來，大都用於表示將來時間的場合；after an hour是從現在看過去，用以追述已經過去的事實。因此，前者多與將來時態連用，後者常與過去時態連用。例：
I suppo we make the homeward trip in two hours.
我想回家路程兩個小時就行了。
They will graduate from the uy in two months.
過兩個月他們將從大學畢業了。
請注意，從過去的某個時間看將來，也是用in an hour。例如：
He said good-bye to us and promid to e ba an hour.
他和我們說了聲再見並答應一小時後回來。
另一點值得注意的是，in an hour也能表達“在一小時內”之意。為此，in譯成“在……之後”或“在……之內”，要視具體場合而定。例如在下麵兩句中，很清楚，根據上下文，in應作“在……之內”解：
I''lllearn another fn language in two years.
兩年內，我要再學會一門外語。
He wrote this article in two days.
他是在兩天內把這篇文章寫好的。
下麵是用after的例句：
After two years'' practice he made nothing of clearing the bar at two metres.
經過兩年的鍛煉，他已經能輕鬆地跳過兩米。
He died after two days.
兩天後他死了。
如果after後麵跟的不是一段時間，而是某個具體的時刻、日期或事件，該句的謂語動詞也可以用將來時。例：
They will arrive in Macau after the first of May.
他們將在五月一日之後到達澳門。
She would e after the ceremony.
她在典禮之後會來的。
