most除作名詞和形容詞外，尚可用作副詞和名詞，故易和另一副詞mostly混淆不清。
作形容詞時，most的意思是“最多的”、“最大的”；作名詞時，意為：“大部分”；作副詞時，意為：“最”，有時相當於very的含義。例：

mostly隻能用作副詞，意思是“大都”、“大概”、“通常”。例：
We are mostly out on Sundays．

初學英語的人容易把mostly的-ly丟掉，以致與most混淆不清。請注意分辨下列句中most和mostly的不同含義：

在下列句中，需要表達的含義是for the most part, 因此，隻能用mostly不能用most．
