請注意, 有些人以為, 情態動詞,could; may，might; shall,should; will,would等的現在式表示現在或將來，過去式表示過去時間，其實，這樣的機械理解是不對的。情態動詞的時態主要是通過所連用的不定式來表示，簡單式（即一般式）表示現在或將來，完成式則表示過去。試看下麵的例句：
