★ spend 的主語隻能是人,不能是物;其賓語可以是時間, 也可以是金錢,意為“用,花費,消耗”。

★ 區別 alone 與 lonely:在上麵的句子中,alone 作副詞,意為“獨自地”,修飾 visit。但 alone 也可作形容詞,多指一個人的狀態,不帶感情色彩,意為“單獨的,獨自的”;而 lonely 更強調的是孤獨感,意為“孤獨的,寂寞的”,隻能作形容詞。

★ 在現代英語中,在be worth前使用形式主語it被認為是合習慣的。

例:It is worth visiting the city.

這個城市值得去看。

但是,如果不用形式主語it而直接用動名詞作主語則是錯誤的。

誤:visiting the city is worth.

★ Do you mind... 意為“你介意……嗎?”這種說法比較客氣。請求別人允許做某事,通常是要很客氣的。假如你覺得你要問的問題不大好問,或可能使人感到尷尬,就可以先說:Do you mind if I ask a question?
