古時候，有位琴師俞伯牙，
琴技高超人人誇。
他有個好友鍾子期，
真正懂琴的隻有他。
伯牙若彈《高山調》，
子期說，巍巍泰山高又大；
伯牙彈的《流水曲》，
子期說，山溪流水嘩啦啦。
誰料到，子期不幸因病逝，
傷心哭壞了友伯牙。
友墳前，伯牙摔壞琴一張，
好友靈前把誓發，
從此再也不彈琴，
隻因人世知音乏。
這說明，人生知音最難得，
知音才吐心裏話。
The Flowing Water and the High Mountains
In ancient times there was a banjo player named Yu Boya。He played so well that everybody praised him。He had a bosom friend named Zhong Ziqi，who knew every note of his music。
If Boya played a tune of high mountains，he would say that it was Mount Tai high and great If Boya played a tune of water flowing，he would say that it was a mountain creek flowing vigorously。But it happened that Ziqi died of a deadly disease。Boya wept sadly and grieved very much。In front of his friend's tomb，he broke his banjo，and pledged that he would never play again，as he had no one in the world that could really understand him。
That means that true friends are very difficult to find，and only to the true friend can you lay bare your heart。
