I ADMIT IT, I LOVE THIS CITY [1]
Afternoon in this city
Is when the sunlight is most beautiful
Shadows of pigeon flocks pass
Along perimeters of groves and office towers
And those fading patches
Of valley mist and bluish haze
Gleam like pieces of veined agate
Among far-off groups of mountains
The endless allure of this city, perhaps
Lies in the folds of its irregular terrain
Its beauty holds mystery, like a parable
I admit it, I love this city
Because each time I see it
I am surprised and struck by a strangeness
Which far surpasses my familiarity with it
It always seems to hide a certain passion
Like a young wife
Fresh and full of wildness
Each time I watch darkness
Descend on the top of Gele Mountain
Lights of this mountain city begin to perform
A symphony that leaps through time and space
Those starry twinkling notes
Assemble in a golden convoy
Recasting this mountain city of the East
As a marvelous ocean of light
Complete with wave troughs and crests
I know not why, but at such times
I often think back sixty years
