1、Mary想與Henry通話，但接電話的是Stephen。
Stephen: (answering phone) 335 2688.
Mary: Hello. Is that you, Henry？
Stephen: No, this is Stephen.
Mary: Oh. May I talk to Henry, please?
Stephen: Hold on, please.
應注意：在電話語中，提到自己時用“this”，如“This is Mary speaking.”而提到接電話的人時用“that”。
2、Mr. Smith詢問致電者是誰。
Mr. Smith: (answering phone) 335 2688.
Caller: Hello, is that Mr. Smith?
Mr. Smith: Speaking. May I ask who’s calling?
Caller: It’s Chris Best here.
注意此處應避免受到漢語影響而表達為：“Could you tell me who you are?”
