The results of study indicate the two characters of development in YangtzeRiver Delta since carrying out the reform and opening policies：one is thatthe polycentric spatial structure emerges in Yangtze River Delta during a30‐years market‐oriented reform and the continuous urbanization，which approachesto the status in developed countries and regions；the other is that the developmentof the study area demonstrates an evident feature of system reform，and the space coordinated development is rather costly and difficult because ofthe long‐term planned economy.Most of the projects are oriented by the “generalphenomena and laws”of the development of polycentric region.Accordingto the current situation of the Yangtze River Delta，based on the research ofthe spatial structure of metropolitan Hangzhou and other 16cities，a theoreticalmodel that based on the regional spatial coordinated development of currentChina-s system transformation period has been established through logical deduction．The meaning of the model towards the theoretical research has beensummarized，and the policy system and related strategy comments of establishingmature developed polycentric region at Yangtze River Delta have beenproposed.
