What is indicated by Kun is most gentle and weak, but, when put in motion, is hard and strong, it is most still, but is able to give every definite form. ——- from The Record of Wen Yan, Kun
Modern interpretation: Be as strong and impregnable as the gentle and weak Earth which sprouts all things of creation. And be as unchangeable as the still earth which gives every definite form.
Moral: Humanity should fully understand and respect Mother Earth that produces all things in the world and holds a meek disposition.
Glossary: In divination by the eight trigrams, hexagrams may be changed according to the rule of changing the Lao rather than the Shao. Thus, the appearance of lines of Lao Yang and Lao Yin is identified as changing hexagrams. In divination practice, lines of both Lao Yin and Lao Yang would be turned into the opposite.
