衍言：人處逆境更要明白全身避害之關鍵在於舍棄，正所謂退一步海闊天空。
《周易》小詞典：《否》，卦名。否，閉塞，此卦坤下乾上，處於泰卦之後，與泰卦反。反映了古人認為物極必反、通極必塞的辯證思維。用於人事則象征小人用事而不利於君子。

Modern interpretation: To avoid misfortune, the superior man should restrain himself, withdrawing from post and power, honor, fame and gain.
Moral: In adverse circumstances, people should know that it is imperative to give up something they want so as to avoid total disasters. Sometimes a step backward may mean more steps forward.
Glossary: With Kun below and Qian above, the Hexagram Pi denotes stagnation, which is exactly the opposite of the meaning t of Tai. This reflects the dialectical idea of the ancients that things run into their opposites when they reach the extreme, and an extreme openness leads to block. In personal matters, this idea symbolizes that there is disadvantage for noble people when small men are in administration.
