這一對詞都有“冒險”之意，但含義和使用場合有所不同。
adventure主要指危險的、富有刺激性的行動（dangerous or exg activities）。它的形容詞有兩個：adventuresome和adventurous，但前者不及後者用得普遍。adventure可以用作名詞和動詞，可是用作動詞的場合不多，並且很不普遍，一般都用venture代替。例：
Uom loves adventure（s）.
湯姆叔叔喜愛冒險。
Last year he went in arch of adventures.
去年他探險去了。
The explorer told me many stories about his adventures in the Afri forests.

venture主要指商業上的冒險和投機（a ercial or other speculation）。它的形容詞也有兩個：venturesome和venturous，但後者不及前者用得普遍。venture也可以用作名詞和動詞，用作動詞時，還能表示“冒昧”、“敢於”、“以（生命、財產等）為孤注”等意。例：
He is ready for aure.
他不顧任何危險。
The speculator said,“If the venture succeeds,we stand to make a million.”
這個投機者說：“如果這個投機買賣能夠成功，我們就能成為百萬富翁。”
“My son! You should not venture your fortune in a speculation，”said Father.

在短語at a venture中，venture並無“危險”或“冒險”之意，它作“胡亂地”、“碰碰運氣”解，相當於at random。例：

venture一詞還在諺語中出現。如：
