這兩個詞都有“基礎”、“根據”之意，但在概念和用法方麵均有所不同。
（一)ba多用於直解（literal meaning），通常指有形的或物體的“基礎”、“根基”或“基地”；basis則多用於比喻（figurative meaning），多指無形的或抽象的“基礎”和“根據”。
（二)ba除用作名詞外，還可用作動詞；basis隻能用作名詞，不能作動詞。
（三)ba和basis的複數形式同形，都是bas，但讀法不同。前者念brbeszbr，後者念brbesizbr。
