這兩個詞的唯一區別是後者多了個s，初學者又容易把besides的s漏掉，以致與beside混淆起來。
beside是介詞，義：“在……之旁”（at the side of）; besides作介詞時，是“此外”、“除外”（in addition to,other than），作副詞時，是 "況且”、“還有”（moreover，more than that）。
He drew up a chair beside her bed.
他把一張椅子拉到她的床邊。
He is hard-w.Besides,he is always ready to help his friends.
他工作努力，並且一向樂於助友。
Besides some grammatical mistakes,there are veral words misspelt.
除了幾個語法錯誤之外，還拚錯了幾個詞。
In a there are over fifty minorities besides the Hans.
在中國，除了漢族外，還有五十多個少數民族。
請注意besides一詞的用法，當它用作介詞時，其後除了接名詞之外，還可以接動名詞和不帶to的動詞不定式。例：
What has he done,besides reading（read)novels and playing（play)golf？
他除了看看小說和打打高爾夫球外，還幹了一些什麼事？
besides一詞不但可以放在句中或句首，有時候，它也可以放在句末。例：
He is guilty of two killings,and more besides.
