這兩個詞都是形容詞，又都有“健康的”含義，但詞義有差異。
healthful的意思是“有助於健康的”、“衛生的”（ducive to health or sanitary）。例如：a healthful climate（有益健康的氣候）; healthful exerci（對健康有益的運動）；a healthful diet（有益健康的飲食）。例：
M exerci is very healthful.
早操對人的健康十分有益。
There''s nothing more healthful than a jog every day.
對健康而言，每日慢跑比什麼都好。
healthy的意思是“健康的”、“健壯的”（posssing good health），著重指享有健康的狀態。例：
A healthy mind in a healthy body is a great blessing.
具有健全的身心是十分幸福的。
He looks very healthy—as fit as a fiddle.
他看起來非常健康，可謂健壯如牛。
現將healthful和healthy用在一個句子裏，以便區別：
Healthful food makes a healthy man.
有益的食品能使人增進健康。
但請注意，在現代英語裏healthy已取代了healthful；原先的差異已不複存在。因此，人們在表達“有益於健康的氣候、食物、娛樂或空氣”之意時，大都說：healthy climate（recreation,air…）,以代替healthful climate…
另一點值得注意的是，healthy還可以表達“正確”、“正麵”、“明智”、“穩健”之意。例：
I appreciate very much his healthy attitude.
我非常欣賞他那種穩健的態度。
He always has a healthy scepticism about the politi''s promis.
對於政客的諾言他總是持明智的懷疑態度。
此外，health food（健康食品）一詞現已廣泛使用，指不含人工添加物，有益健康的天然食品，與healthy food（有益於健康的食物）有別。
