imaginary,imaginative(1 / 1)

這兩個詞都是形容詞,又都含有“想象的”意思,但詞義和使用場合有所不同。

imaginary表示“空想的”、“假想的”、“虛構的”(existing only in the imagination;not real,but produced from pictures in someone''s mind)的含義。如:an imaginary friend(想象中的朋友); the imaginary enemy(假想的敵人); an imaginary figure(虛構的人物); imaginary dangers(想象中的危險)。imaginary既可作定語形容詞,也可以作表語形容詞。例:

The soldiers are at drill on the border,attag the imaginary enemies.

士兵們正在邊界操練,向假想的敵人進攻。

This story is not real; it is only imaginary.

這個故事並非真實,隻是虛構的而已。

Ghosts are all imaginary.

鬼魂都是想象出來的東西。

imaginative是“具有或富有想象力的”(having or showing imagination)。如an imaginative child(很有想象力的孩子);imaginative writers (富有想象力的作家); 有時候,imaginative也可以表示“通過想象力創造出來的”(formed by the u of imagination)。如:imaginative writing(通過想象力創造的作品)。例:

My daughter is an imaginative and artistic child.

我的女兒是個富有想象力和藝術感的孩子。

Few poets in a rival Qu Yuan in his siy,imaginative power and evocative u of words.

在中國,很少有詩人能比得上屈原的真誠、富於想象力和動人的辭藻運用。

再將imaginary和imaginative用於一個句子中,以便區別:

Don Quixote was so imaginative as to fight many imaginary battles.

唐·吉訶德非常富有想象力,他作了多次假想的戰鬥。
