★ delay，put off 都表示“延遲；延誤”的意思。兩者其後可接n.\/v-ing，為了表明推遲到何時，可用介詞 to, till, until 等。
例：He decided to delay his holiday to next month.
他決定把假期推遲到下個月。
但兩者也有細微的差別。delay 除表示推遲日期外，還可表示暫時阻撓或阻擋，因此有“耽擱”的含意。put off 以人作賓語時，表示借辭推脫或搪塞某人、推遲或取消與某人的約會、使某人不高興或反感、打擾某人、讓某人下車等。
例：The heavy rain delayed my journey.
大雨耽擱了我的行程。
He tried to put me off with more promises.
他想用更多的諾言來敷衍我。
到達機場後，你需要在值機櫃台（check-in counter）那裏換取登機牌、選取座位、托運行李等，這會花費你一些時間，因此你要預留出充足的時間，以免誤了航班。如果時間充足，你還可以去免稅店逛一逛。

★ check in 主要有兩種含義：（在旅館、機場等）登記，報到；托運（行李）。check out意為“辦理退房、出院手續”。
